Michael Murphy subcontracted with one of the nations largest neckties manufacturers in 1992 to design and hand-dye silk for a collection of ties that were distributed nationwide. Michelle, his oldest daughter had just graduated from art school and came west to help with the designing and production. The resulting collection was chosen by Japan's foremost color consultant and Michael was invited to Osaka to show the work to Japanese buyers. The success of the product in Japan and in the United States launched Murphy Artisan Ties as an independent company in 1995. A retail outlet was established in Seattle and a website created. These two venues led to increasing wholesale, custom and corporate accounts. $79 | |
