The 2011-12 Board Retreat was Friday, April 29

Many great discussions
that took place, some
of which focused on
the progress of current

interest in those targets
and selecting action
items for 2011-2012.
Two new targets were
added (professional
development program
planning and watching
the progress of the
Trails Initiative group)
for the Association.
Thank you to all who
attended!

MPRA 2011
Conference Summary
As the 2010-2011 Fiscal Year comes to a close the financial
outlook of the association starts to become clearer. The MPRA Annual Conference
and Expo is responsible for nearly a quarter of annual revenues for the
association and this year the St. Louis Conference netted revenues just
slightly higher than budgeted numbers! Thank you to all who attended or sent
staff to this wonderful event. Thank you again to our sponsors. Did you know
that sponsorships for this event saved each delegate an average of $70 in
registration fees? Be sure to thank your sponsors!!
Results of the session evaluations and overall conference
evaluations indicated that this year was a pleasant experience. Lots of good
suggestions have been forwarded on to the 2012 Conference Committee for review
as they plan for next year’s conference at The Lodge of Four Seasons, Lake Ozark.
If you have any suggestions or would like to volunteer to help with next year’s
conference please email gary@mopark.org.
Missouri
State Parks Update Spring is always a busy time in
Missouri state parks and 2011 is certainly no exception.
April 2 Gov.
Nixon officially opened the 11-mile section of Katy Trail State Park from St.
Charles to Machens.
April 8 Officials
opened the Pat Jones
Pedestrian/Bicycle Lane
on the Missouri River
Bridge at Jefferson
City.
April 11 Springfield was recognized as the first
city in Missouri to complete the Children in Nature Challenge.

Attendance
Continues to Increase
at Missouri State Parks More
and more people are
discovering the joys
of visiting Missouri
state parks and historic
sites and it shows in
the attendance numbers.
In 2010, more than 16.3
million people visited
Missouri's 85 state
parks and historic sites,
and this reflects an
almost 10 percent increase
in attendance in the
last two years. See

If
you call MPRA, you might
hear a new voice on
the line! We are happy
to welcome Monica Smith.
Monica is the new office
assistant, and
is doing a great job!
She is taking the place
of Rose Kaiser. Rose
has been a tremendous
asset to MPRA and we
hate to see her go.
She has decided to retire
and spend more time
with her grandson, Clayton.
When she's not spoiling
him, you will probably
find her on a golf course
somewhere working on
her game. Rose's last
day will be Thursday,
May 12. Thank you
for everything, Rose!
You will be missed. And
welcome, Monica! You
have already fit right
in here at MPRA, and
we are glad you're here! |
