KCMO Parks and Recreation partnered with the Kansas City Bicycle Club to present the annual tour on June 20. Proceeds from the event benefit the Friends of the Fountains and Trails KC. read more

 


ØLee's Summit Staff Member Saves a Life with CPR!
Maggie Siebert, a seasonal staff member of Lee's Summit Parks and Recreation learned CPR at her camp counselor training. On June 1, that training helped Siebert save a life in Yellowstone National Forest.

ØNew Smoking Policy Passed
The Lee's Summit Parks and Recreation Board passed a new smoking policy at the monthly board meeting on April 28.

ØPlatte County Canoe & Kayak Event
The sport of canoeing and kayaking gained a lot of new participants thanks to Platte County Parks & Recreation, Kansas City Paddler and the Missouri Department of Conservation.

ØRegion 2 has scheduled a maintenance workshop to be held September 23, 2010 in Columbia. More information will be released soon. In the mean time, keep that date open!
 


ØHershey Track and Field State Championships held in Jefferson City
Over 350 attendees were on hand to participate. Thanks to the Northeast Region leadership and the City of Jefferson's Department of Parks, Recreation and Forestry, MPRA was allowed to assist with concessions and received $322 in revenues. read more

ØBranson has an eventful summer planned
With 40+ tournaments and events this summer, there is always something to do in Branson! Check out one of the tournaments, or the Branson Mountain Man Triathlon. If that's not enough- there is a record number of teams enrolled in the youth baseball and softball season this year! read more

ØNew Community Center: Eco-Friendly &  New Programs!
In 2009, the Ozark Parks Department opened the new Ozark Community Center. The building is Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (Leed) certified and has many unique amenities. read more
 
 


ØExciting things are happening in Republic
In 2009 the City of Republic purchased land to develop into a new park. Work is currently under way and a portion of the park should be open soon. Also, plans have been unveiled for a proposed Republic Veterans Memorial in Miller Park. The goal is to begin construction in August, 2010. read more
 


ØSpringfield-Greene County Park Board's Newest Facilities
Springfield now has a new naturalized playground that has been designated as a NatureGrounds national demonstration site. They also had a dedication ceremony in May for their newest park, Lost Hill Park Natural Resource Area and South Dry Sac Trailhead. read more

ØSouth Creek Greenway Receives Trail Award
AThe Springfield Greene County Park Board and Ozark Greenways, Inc. received a National Recreation Trail designation for Springfield's South Creek Greenway. read more
 


ØNews from Willard Parks and Recreation
A recent Triathlon in June had close to 100 competitors and the Willard Aquatic Center opened for its 2nd season. read more

ØCouncil Votes to Lease Sportport
The Maryland Heights City Council approved the lease of Sportport, the city's outdoor recreation comples, to Ultimate Soccer Arenas of Missouri, LLC (USA-MO). The 20-year lease includes a graduated annual rental fee and the city will incur no net costs during the life of the agreement. read more

Ø25 Years of Maryland Heights! 
Maryland Heights spent the weekend of June 4-June 6 celebrating the city's 25th anniversary. The event was deemed a success and photos of the celebration can be viewed here.
 


ØEast Playground in Tower Grove Park gets Renovated
On April 23, the newly renovated East Playground was dedicated in Tower Grove Park. read more

MPRA is taking over sections 333, 334 and 335 at Busch Stadium on September 18! Face value of tickets is $35, but you can purchase them through this link for only $20 each! The proceeds from ticket sales will go to MPRA and the MPRA Aquatic Section to increase the quality of our community parks and recreation programs throughout the state. See you at the game!
